Wanderlei Silva was just a mirror image of his old self. No one had a clue what to expect from him at UFC on Fuel 8. Man, were we in for a treat. Brian Stann was coming off a loss to Michael Bisping, and Wanderlei Silva was coming off a loss to Rich Franklin. Both men were looking to get back on the right track heading in to UFC on Fuel 8, and both came out guns blazing. The first round was full of exciting moments with Stann and Silva exchanging punches and knockdowns. The pace slowed significantly after Stann had a gash on his nose, and in the blink of an eye Silva landed a right, then a left that would put Stann on his back. Silva followed with some punches that would result in a knockout win for The Axe Murderer. This win may put to rest those retirement questions that Silva has been facing over the past couple years. The man who destroyed men in PRIDE was not the same man he was in the UFC. He has had 9 fights in the Octagon and has lost 5 of those fights. He was no longer The Axe Murderer. Tonight, however, he looked like his old self. Taking shots and dishing them right back. I was so in to this fight, I was disappointed it ended in the 2nd round. It was a war from the very beginning and I wanted to see more. However, I was happy to see Silva win in the country where his career skyrocketed. I wouldn't mind if he decided to retire, he's had a great career. There's no need for him to add more blemishes to his record, he has nothing left to prove. Although, he has shown that he still has some gas in the tank, it would be nice if he retired on top; with a win in the country where he became one of the best in the world.
